Prayer is the Key to God’s Power
November 8, 2020
Prayer is the way to call on God’s power. It is the act of asking God for blessings and help whenever we are in need. Everyone is a sinner who is imperfect. Therefore, human beings are very limited in ability and even deficient in many areas. This is why we need look to God and call on Him through prayer so that He may help us in our inadequacies.
Prayer Creates Miracles
When a man brought his possessed son to Jesus’ disciples, they were unable to drive out the evil spirit. But Jesus drove out the evil spirit when they brought him the son. So the disciples wanted to know why they couldn’t drive out the evil spirit but Jesus could. Jesus’ answer was prayer.
Mark 9:28-29 “After Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?” He replied, “This kind can come out only by prayer.” ”
What stopped the disciples from witnessing a miracle? It was their lack of prayer. Jesus gives us the answer to His power in creating many miracles. Through His constant prayers, He was able to perform countless miracles.
A miracle can be defined as “an extraordinary event in the physical world that surpasses all known human or natural powers and is ascribed to a supernatural cause.”
If we desire to experience the supernatural, we must call upon the supernatural forces. Prayer is the act of calling upon the supernatural power of God. Therefore, prayer is the very tool that allows us to witness the impossible.
Every Great Work is Accomplished Through Prayer
When we look at all the great heroes of the Bible, we can say that they all had one thing in common: they sought God’s help through prayer. Jonah prayed and received God’s strength and power to lead 120,000 Ninevites to repentance. Daniel prayed to God 3 times a day toward Jerusalem. As a result, God protected him in the lion’s den. Elijah experienced the miracle of receiving the fire on the altar after prayer. All the forefathers of faith accomplished great works because of prayer.
Even Jesus, our model of faith, set an example by starting every day with prayer from early in the morning. This shows us that Jesus began every work with prayer. Moreover, Jesus told Peter to watch and pray that he would not fall into temptation. Then why does prayer have the power to drive away temptations from Satan? God is the only one that can overcome Satan. When we receive His power through prayer, consequently we too can overcome the evil one.
So whether it’s leading people to repentance, being saved from a disaster, or overcoming Satan, everything will be accomplished through prayer. Then if we want to succeed in whatever work we pursue, we should pray to God. It is because prayer is always present when a great work is performed.
We Must Pray Continually
Then how should we pray? How often should we pray? God teaches us to pray continually. In other words, all the time!
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
Paul regarded prayer as a rope to communicate with God. Then if we can communicate with the living God through prayer, would we not want to pray all the time? Like Jesus, we should do everything with prayer.
Failing to Pray is a Sin
If we fail to pray to God, the Bible regards it as a sin.
1 Samuel 12:23 “As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD by failing to pray for you.”
There are many sins in the Bible and failure to pray is one of them. Then why does God consider our negligence of prayer as a sin? Would we be able to receive any spiritual blessings or successes without God’s help? Never! To let us know the importance of prayer and to bless us continually, God instructs us that a life of faith without prayer is a life of sin.
God Answers All Our Prayers
God not only hears but also answers all our prayers. When we pray with faith, God will give us everything we ask.
Matthew 7:7-11 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”
But we must believe with conviction and not pray half-heartedly or with doubt.
Matthew 21:22 “If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”
God does not answer prayers that test Him, are with a sinful mind, or have the wrong motives. When it is for righteousness in God and we ask with faith, God will absolutely answer us. Therefore, we should always ask in obedience to God’s will.
Our awesome God, Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother, want to hear from us, Their children, all the time. Let’s always think of God and call on Them by using the tool of prayer.
