God’s Name is Different in Each Age
December 14, 2020
People wonder why the World Mission Society Church of God uses the name “Ahnsahnghong” since they are only familiar with the name “Jesus.” Nevertheless, the Bible teaches that God’s name changes according to age. If a person knows and follows God’s name according to the age he or she is living in, the person can enter salvation.
We Need to Have Correct Knowledge of God
Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. “Because you have rejected knowledge,I also reject you as my priests;because you have ignored the law of your God,I also will ignore your children.”
The book of Hosea testifies that people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. Though millions of people claim that they know God, they do not know God’s name for this age. This happened also approximately 2,000 years ago. Jesus was Jehovah yet the Jews rejected Him since they viewed Him as a mere man claiming to be God. This shows they did not have the correct knowledge of God, of how God achieves His work of redemption. God divided His work of redemption into three different ages and has given a name for each age. Though God is one as the Father but He has three different names, which He reveals according to the appropriate age. In fact, God Himself said to baptize people in His three names.
Matthew 28:18-20 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Christ taught us that we must receive baptism with three names. The Father’s name, Son’s name, and the Holy Spirit’s name. “Jehovah” was the name in the age of the Father. He then carried out His work as a Son and used a different name “Jesus.” All Christians know that we are living in the age of the Holy Spirit. Then, of course, there must also be the name God uses when he carries out His work in the age of the Holy Spirit.
There is a Time Limit for God’s Name
The Bible teaches there is a time for everything under God’s providence.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:
The three names define that God established a time limit for salvation for each age. He carries out His work of saving us under the name of the Father, under the name of the Son, and under the name of the Holy Spirit, in accordance with each age. Before Jesus came as the Savior, all the forefathers of faith called upon the name Jehovah. But after Jesus came, he commanded the disciples to pray in His name. If we do not understand how God divided the ages, we might think that the Bible contradicts itself. If we understand God’s plan regarding time limitation, we will understand the contents of the Bible more easily.
Psalms 116:4 Then I called on the name of the Lord:“Lord, save me!”
In the age of the Father, people prayed in the name of Jehovah and after Jesus taught His disciples to pray in His name, that is when the believers started to pray in His name.
John 16:24 Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.
This shows there is a time limit for God’s name, which He gives according to the age.
God’s New Name in the Age of the Holy Spirit
The Jews who did not receive Jesus as the Savior for the age of the Son viewed the ones following and praying in the name Jesus in a strange way. Since the religious teachers had only taught the name Jehovah for so long, the Jews mocked and ridiculed Jesus and His followers, even calling them a sect. When the members of the World Mission Society Church of God testify that we must pray in Jesus’ New Name, Ahnsahnghong; the Holy Spirit’s name, others may view this strangely. This is due to the fact that religious leaders of this age have only taught people the name Jesus until now.
If the Savior’s name, Jesus, is used in the age of the Son, God’s new name must appear in the age of the Holy Spirit.
Revelation 3:12 The one who is victorious I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will they leave it. I will write on them the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on them my new name.
The new name will be coming after Jesus; represented as the living stone,
Revelation 2:17 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give him a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to him who receives it.
1 Peter 2:4-5 As you come to him, the living Stone–rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him–
you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
and if we wish to enter salvation, we must know and understand the new name of this age.
God’s People Know God’s Name for Each Age
God’s people certainly must know God’s name for each age. Those who claim to believe in God but do not know His name can neither have the truth nor salvation.
Again, in the age of the Father, God told His people that the name Jehovah is the Savior’s one and only name.
Isaiah 43:11 I, even I, am the Lord, and apart from me there is no savior.
Before Jesus came down, God’s people knew “Jehovah” as the savior’s name and after the age changed, God’s people recognized “Jesus” as the savior’s name.
Acts 4:11-12 Jesus is“‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”
In reading these two verses, some may think there is a contradiction. Nevertheless, when we understand the concept of time limitation in God’s plan, it is clear that God gives His name according to the age.
God’s name in the age we are living in now is neither Jehovah nor Jesus, but the new name of Jesus. The Bible says Christ will come a second time according to prophecies and use a new name. This is the reason why the members of the World Mission Society Church of God pray and give praise in the name of Christ Ahnsahnghong. He is the one who fulfilled the prophecies about the second coming of Christ. By studying all the prophecies we can realize the new name and enter salvation.
